Doug Courtney, Dr. Douglas Courtney actually. A writer, blogger, businessman, and so much more. But let’s begin. First, yeah, I am older. I began writing about 20 years ago. Always loved to write, but had to make a living for my family. Decided waiting to write wasn’t going to cut it and began in earnest while I held down various jobs. Sold my first book to an actual real customer, not family or friends, and kept going. Now what was a side gig, a hobby, something done when time permits is what I do everyday. Personally, even though I began late in life, my age provides me with a level of experience younger writers can only hope to achieve.
“I like to read, a lot. BUT I really like it when you read to me.” A comment from my wife Rhonda just before she snuggled under the covers and waited for me to begin.
One of the things I have learned is people still like stories. They like being told the stories. People like to grab a drink, lean in, and listen to a tale told to them in the same way their ancestors gathered around a campfire to hear their stories. My wife used to cuddle under the blankets before she went to sleep and revel in me telling my latest tale. It reminded her of when her mom or dad used to read to her at bedtime at home. A good tale told gives warm memories and comfort. It provides happiness.
While I have formal degrees, I also have a background in entrepreneurship and business management. I use this experience in my writings to bring to the reader the characters you meet everyday shopping, working, or in your neighborhood. Believe me. Having to manage as many diverse personalities as I have in as many locations as I have provides quite creative insights.
People have been telling stories since a flame was first put to a campfire. For Centuries friends and family have gathered around to here a good tale told. Since people like to listen to stories and I like to write and read stories I decided to put both together and tell the tale. Come on in and listen up to an original tale written by me and told by me. Let’s have some fun!
