I write the short stories. I often put them in an anthology.
But many of the stories are stand alone. You can find the books I read from right here. Even a few of the stand alone are available.

Here are some of my books and stories. This is where I get the tales I tell. I must tell you though, while children will enjoy them, these are not kids tales. They are tales for the whole family.
Not all of them are short stories. Not all the stories have been told yet. But all are available to browse and purchase. All these stories and more can be purchased here: Dr. Douglas Courtney Author Store
American Christmas Stories

My first set of anthologies. A point of interest. Each short story was written for a specific year and sent to friends and family as a Christmas present. The result is a linear history of what was important during each year of the telling. This set includes the Twin Towers historical event and the Great Recession. It reflects how each event affected people at Christmas.
American Christmas Stories Book 2

Just like the first set of short stories this set follows a linear history. It covers the Christmases from 2010 until 2019. References to the Great Recession, the Afghanistan War, and domestic gun violence are voiced in hopeful beliefs in Christmas. These tales tell the greatness of the human spirit even in the sadness of the world.
Halloween Anthology

My first short story collection about Halloween. Ain’t none of these concerning historical events. Just straight up Halloween ghost, goblins, witches, and warlocks. All done in good fun. Most with the whimsy of love and family included. From the ghosts of St. Augustine, Florida to the swamps and stories of Native American tribes. Scary fun.
Unburdened

Not a selection of Short Stories. An actual full blown work of fiction. While this tale hasn’t been told yet. It is a deeply involved tale of love, hate, betrayal, and loss. The characters are not young and vibrant. But many are at the end of their journey with a few more hardened tales to tell.
Caregiver

Not a story of fiction. But a loving remembrance of the transition of a husband from a partner to a caregiver for his wife of 50 years. It is a tale of 7 years as he watches his wife move through the various stages of Alzheimer’s. He remembers her and his life as it all comes to a final resolution.
Inhale Fear, Breathe Anger:
Dixiecrats, TEA Partiers, and Changing Political Paradigms

A history of political parties in the United States and how they have changed over the years. Written in 2010 this book predicts the historical changes emanating from the Republican Party and offers reasons why. This book has been sold world wide and is still referenced 14 years after initial publication.
